The team selection process for IMO in Ukraine consists of 4 rounds of olympiad exams and a series of 4 team selection tests.
Round 1
Usually called a “School Round”. It’s the first phase of the selection process, where students compete against their peers from the same school. Students who obtained the best results qualify for the next round.
Round 2
Usually called a “District Round”. This is a competition that gathers together the students from about 20-25 neighboring schools. The winners qualify for the next round.
Round 3
Usually called a “City Round” or “Regional Round”. This round gathers together the students from the areas of the population roughly from 500,000 to 1,500,000 people, where they compete to form a team representing their “region” or “city” on the next round.

Usually called a “Republic Round” and represents the actual National Olympiad of Ukraine. It is held in March of each year in different cities of the country. The round is structured as two separate exams, held over two consecutive days. Each day the contestants are provided with four problems. The level of the problems is comparable to the level of national math olympiads held in other countries (Russia, Switzerland, Australia, etc).
Team Selection Test
12 students who obtained the best results in Round 4 qualify for a series of team selection tests, structured as four (4) separate exams, held over four consecutive weeks. Each exam consists of three problems usually comparable to the IMO level.
